The run down

Parkour whilst widely known, is not the most common sport to practice. Having a dedicated gym will help bring more people into the sport due to the increased safety that can come with practicing in a gym. Jumps are easier to scale, flips can be learnt on a soft surface and importantly there will be coaches ready to help.

Whilst parkour can definitely be learnt completely outside, it can be daunting and confusing doing that for the first time. Having a gym to come to can also increase the speed of learning.

With all this said we still advocate for outside training. We find the balance of both is best for improving skills and integrating into the community.

Fear

Fear is one of the key aspects that stop people from trying out parkour. Those fears range from getting hurt to getting judged. One key thing that a gym can help with is alleviating these fears. Soft places to fall when learning helps tackle the fear of injuries and falling and structured classes with people from the same level helps reduce fear of judgment.

Not being fit enough to start

We hear this from adults and sometimes teens. Regardless of background and current physical abilities a gyms scalability will always be able to provide an achievable challenge. That's both for those just getting back into the swing of things or those moving from sport to sport.

Location

Location is important for a gym, this was our number 1 concern. Our location has plenty of parking and is a 5 minute walk from a train station. It is also within 5 minutes of some outdoor places to train meaning you can progress your moves outside of the gym with ease.

Final thoughts

Parkour should be for everyone and having a gym certainly would help with this. It'll bring more people into the community, giving people many new connections and lifelong friends. It will also help speed up the progression of peoples skill acquisitions putting Melbourne back on the map!
